Louisiana Tech is poised to win the team and individual titles at the 2021 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate heading into Tuesday’s third and final round.
All 119 competitors and 21 teams will open play Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Squire Creek Golf Course.
For the second straight day, Murphy shot a four-under-par 68 and sits at eight-under-par (68-68=136) through 36 holes – one stroke ahead of Southern Miss’ Hunter Atkins (69-68=137).
Murphy wasn’t the only Bulldog that played well on Monday as the team shot nine-under-par 279. Hunter Battles shot a three-under-par 69 and sits in a tie for 10th place, while Lake Juban also fired a 69 on Monday.
“I’m proud of the guys,” said Matt Terry. “They fought today. They had some more hiccups during their rounds, but they kept themselves in it all day emotionally. We’re still making a few mistakes that we will have to clean up tomorrow. All-in-all, being in second place, we’re in good shape.
“It looks like there’s some weather coming in, but that’s okay. We’ll go out, see what we have, continue to learn and continue to become the team we’re going to be. We’re going to keep getting better.”
UTSA (290-272=562) leads the team competition at 14-under-par while Tech (286-279=565) sits alone in second at 11-under-par. LSU (566), Little Rock (567), Southern Miss (569) are all within seven strokes of the team lead.
