The Lincoln Parish School Board has announced its 2021-2022 Teachers of the Year for Lincoln Parish Schools. Twenty individuals were named and honored for their contribution to the classroom.
Jada Walsworth, a third grade math and science teacher at A.E. Phillips, said she was very excited and honored to be chosen.
“The best part was my students were in my classroom when I found out,” Walsworth said. “They cheered and clapped, and that made the moment extra special.”
Walsworth said her goal as an educator is to model her own love for learning and to teach meaningful and engaging lessons that motivate her students to learn.
“My favorite thing about teaching is connecting with students and helping them to grow as math and science students throughout the school year,” she said. “Seeing the progress they make is very rewarding.”
Karla Doss, a third grade ELA teacher at Simsboro Elementary, said she works with so many good teachers who also are deserving of the honor.
“When I was told that I would be awarded with Teacher of the Year, I was grateful but felt undeserving,” Doss said. “We have so many great teachers in our district who deserve this honor.”
Doss said she wants every student to see how much they are loved and how smart they are.
“My favorite thing about teaching is watching the joy on a child’s face when they master something they have been working hard to achieve,” Doss said. “Whether it be something as simple as writing a complete sentence or composing their first essay, watching a student glow as they grow is what makes teaching so enjoyable.”
