Louisiana Tech hosts Southern Miss tonight at 7 p.m. in the final regular season home game for the Bulldogs.
Tech (3-7, 2-4 C-USA) and Southern Miss (1-9, 0-6) for the 53rd time with the Golden Eagles leading the series 35-17. Tech won last year’s meeting 31-30 in Hattiesburg.
Friday is Senior Night as 18 Bulldogs will be honored pregame. It’s also the Red Out Game for Tech fans.
Head coach Skip Holtz and Co. are coming off a 42-32 win over Charlotte Saturday in a game that saw the Bulldogs lead from start to finish.
“There’s an awful lot of positive things to build on for sure moving forward,” said Holtz. “I’m really proud of the effort from this team last week and what they were able to accomplish. I’m excited to get into another one this week. We know there’s nothing ‘tangible’ to play for as far as prizes and awards.
“There is an awful lot of pride and it’s important to us to make sure we can send these seniors out on a positive note with everything they’ve contributed to this program over the last four and five years. I’m excited for the win and am really proud of the players. I’m really proud of the way they competed and their toughness.”
Southern Miss has lost eight straight games in 2021 with its lone victory being a 37-0 win over Grambling State on Sept. 11.
The Golden Eagles have faced some challenges this year at the quarterback position as they have used a total of 10 QBs this season. Southern Miss used quarterbacks No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 last weekend when Frank Gore, Jr., Antavious Willis and Dajon Richard all took snaps at UTSA – all in the wildcat formation.
Gore leads the team in rushing with 73.10 yards per game and junior wide receiver Jason Brownlee leads in receiving yards with 47.80. Defensively, redshirt sophomore defensive back Malik Shorts leads the team with 81 total tackles.
Head coach Will Hall is in his first year at the helm of the Golden Eagles program.
Fans can tune into the game on the LA Tech Radio Network on 107.5 FM with Malcolm Butler (PxP) and Teddy Allen (Analyst) providing the call of the action. The pregame show starts at 5:30 p.m. Fans can also list on the Louisiana Tech Athletics App.
