Arrest made for theft by credit card fraud

Ruston Police arrested a Haughton man after a local business reported multiple purchases using fraudulent credit card transactions.

On Monday, the business reported that over several weeks, several orders had been called in and paid for using a credit card. One order for electrical wire on December 28 totaled $4,282.77. When the business was alerted to the fraud, a total of five orders had been placed under the same name.

On Tuesday, the business reported the suspect was at the store to pick up the fifth order of wire. Officers responded and took him into custody. During questioning through a translator, Rogelio Cortes-Diaz stated he had found work online where he would go to different wholesale outlets and pick up orders. He said a man he knew only by a first name would order the wire and he picked it up. Later, two men would come to his house to pick up the wire. He denied any wrongdoing.

Cortes-Diaz was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for theft over $1,000 but less than $5,000 regarding the December 28 transaction. Investigation is continuing on the other transactions.
