Suspected burglar caught

A Ruston man is in custody after reportedly being caught burglarizing a coin laundry.

At about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning Ruston Police stopped a man inside the laundry at 413 W. Alabama Ave. who matched the description of a suspect caught on video a few days earlier burglarizing the bill changers in the building.

Dustin Cole Dibenedetto, 38, admitted he was the person in the video photos but that he did not commit the burglary.  He said he was washing clothes but later admitted he had no clothes in the building.

A search revealed tools on Dibenedetto commonly used to break into locks as well as tools hidden in a trash can.

An RPD investigator went to the scene and Dibenedetto admitted to the burglary. A search of his car revealed additional tools and a syringe suspected for methamphetamine use.

Dibenedetto was arrested for going through possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal carrying of a weapon – burglar tools.

He remains at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center in lieu of $47,500 bail.
