RPD makes drug arrest on stop

Ruston Police arrested a 21-year-old man early Saturday morning after a traffic stop revealed several controlled substances.

About 2 a.m. Saturday morning, RPD Officer E. Williams stopped Matthew C. Anzalone for a traffic violation. During the stop, Williams smelled suspected marijuana inside the vehicle.

Anzalone admitted a small amount of marijuana was inside the vehicle, along with some “wax.”

During a search, Williams found suspected marijuana along with a small amount of hash oil wax, a butane torch, and a device Anzalone confirmed was used to smoke the wax. An unlabeled pill bottle contained three types of pills—amphetamine dextroamphetamine, methylphenidate hydrochloride, and some unknown pills Anzalone said were appetite stimulants.

Anzalone reportedly told the officer he purchased the pills illegally to help him study.

Anzalone was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (hash oil), two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bail was set at $5,000.
