The First Baptist Weekday Preschool program sponsored its inaugural St. Jude Trike-a-Thon this spring and raised $1,855 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Co-sponsoring the event was the Zeta Rho chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha service group.
Pam Flowers, preschool minister and director for the Weekday program, said, “Thank you, Nancy Darland (of Zeta Rho-ESA), for reaching out to us about participating in our first St. Jude Trike-a-Thon. We had so much fun and are so happy we were able to raise money for such an amazing cause.”
Flowers said the trike-a-thon will be a yearly event. This year, 41 riders participated.
Darland, who is philanthropic chair for Zeta Rho-ESA, said St. Jude Trike-a-Thons offer a fun service-learning program for young children that teaches trike and riding toy safety while helping the children of St. Jude.
“It’s children helping children,” Darland said. “You can’t get more heartwarming than that.”
