Man caught on traffic stop

A Grambling man was literally caught “holding the bag” during a traffic stop when he admitted he had a bag of marijuana in his lap.

At about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Grambling Police Officer D. Livingston stopped a vehicle at the intersection of R.W.E. Jones Drive and Adams Street for an improperly displayed license plate.

When Livingston approached the driver, the man said he had a bag of marijuana in his lap. The driver, Trendon Andrew Drayton, 21, was instructed to step out of the vehicle. Drayton also said he had a large amount of cash in his pants pocket and placed the money on the car’s trunk. The cash totaled $1,610.

The bag of suspected marijuana was large enough that it appeared to be intended for sale or distribution.

Drayton was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Bail is set at $20,000.
