An exchange of children between estranged family members Saturday led to the arrest of a Ruston man.
At about 1 p.m., Saturday Ruston police officers responded to the Lowe’s parking lot regarding a man with a firearm. Officers found a large number of people in the parking lot. Several people told officers they saw Alexis Drake, 22, get out of his vehicle with a firearm. One witness said Drake stated he wasn’t scared to “kill all of y’all.” This statement reportedly caused alarm among the public.
According to the victim and witnesses, Drake was supposed to meet other family members to pick up his children. The grandmother had come to the parking lot with her sons because of threats Drake allegedly had made. When they reached Lowe’s, Drake got out of his vehicle with a firearm and stated he “came strapped today.” He then pointed the firearm in the direction of the occupants. He had returned the firearm to his vehicle before officers’ arrival.
Officers found Drake six-month-old child in the back seat next to the loaded weapon. The child and firearm were removed from the vehicle in the child given to the grandmother. Drake was arrested and transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. He was booked for a terrorizing, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal carrying of weapons, and two warrants for failure to appear in court for resisting an officer by flight, and disturbing the peace.
Bail was set at $535,000.
