Tech XC opens fall season

LA Tech opened its cross country season this past Saturday in Monroe.

The Louisiana Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off their 2022 seasons Saturday at the ULM Warhawk Invitational at Charles Johnson Children’s Park in Monroe, La.

“I’m extremely proud of our first meet,” said distance coach Jeanee Romero. “We were able to see where we’re at as a group and I excited to see the rest of our season. Today was a good beginning, we have a lot of work today, and it’s only up from here for us. We are going to keep getting better and better. I’m excited to see how much we improve from now until next week in Mississippi.”

The even began with the men’s 7K, with LA Tech finishing sixth with an average time of 27:09.

Erik Rangel led the team with a time of 24:02, finishing just outside the top-25 with a 5:31 average mile earning 22 of Tech’s 88 points.

Logan Bailey broke the six-minute mile average with a total run time of 26:02, finishing inside the top-40.

Hayes Gill (28:27), Jason Arena (28:34), and Joshua Raiford (28:43) finished back-to-back-to-back, and Tate Ashcraft rounded out the Bulldog’s morning with a time of 35:15.

In the women’s 5K, Rebecca Quebedeaux led the Lady Techsters to a fourth-place finish with a 21:07 time good for 6:47 average mile earning 16 of Tech’s 102 points.

The Techsters finished with the third overall individual time (21:47) out of the six competing programs.

Lexa Thompson and Jacquelin LaBerteaux finishing 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of 21:38 and 21:48.

Victoria Datta finished inside the top-25 with a 22:01 time, while Ali Looney finished 26th with a time of 22:22.

LA Tech Cross Country continues their 2022 slate next weekend in Clinton, Miss. for the Watson Invitational Saturday, Sep. 24, hosted by Mississippi College.
