
A Downsville man was arrested by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Saturday when deputies investigated a traffic crash.
Deputy D. Johnston responded to a collision on La. Highway 145 at Bagwell Street in Choudrant about 2:30 Saturday afternoon. One of the drivers, Michael Austin, 26, was found to have a suspended driver’s license.
Active warrants were found for Austin with the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office and Ruston City Court. The Ruston warrants were for speeding and no liability insurance. The UPSO warrants sought Austin for illegal carry of weapons, driving under suspension, and expired inspection sticker.
As Austin was arrested, two knives were removed, and he spontaneously emptied his pockets including a clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana.
Austin was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the UPSO and Ruston warrants.
The Ruston charges carried bail of $8,000; the UPSO charge $10,000. Bail amounts on the other offenses was not immediately available.
