Students arrested on drug charges

Two Grambling State University students were arrested by GSU Police Thursday after a search of their dorm room.

A housing official conducting a walk-through of a room in Knott Hall detected a strong odor of burning marijuana.

A search warrant was secured and executed, leading to the arrest of Jaylon Jones, 21, and Dequan K. Brown, 19, both of Monroe.

The search revealed marijuana, two sets of digital scales, and burnt marijuana cigarettes.

Both men were booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone. Jones was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bail for Jones was set at $6,000. Brown’s bail was placed at $5,000.
