Ruston High volleyball took home some nice district awards after a terrific season.
Lady Bearcat head coach Lucie Hunt was named Co-Coach of the Year, while senior Lorelei Freling was named Defensive Player of the Year, and junior Jade Smith was named Offensive Player of the Year.
“Hands down, Defensive Player of the Year was not going to be anybody but Lorelei,” Hunt said. “She had 500 digs on the season; just an incredible libero. And Jade can hit anywhere on the net and is super quick. She has a high swing and can jump out of the gym.”
Senior Hannah Johnson and sophomore Harper Cauley were named First-Team All-District. Said Hunt, “they are super deserving and had more kills than many of the other nominees.”
Senior Maggie Ambrose, Hannah Rollins, and Rhagen Shallowhorn all were named Second-Team All-District. Finally, Allie Richardson was named Honorable Mention.
“The second team was super deserving as well,” Hunt said. “Maggie played on a torn ACL and was able to make this list. She’s a phenomenal person to coach. Rhagen was a move in from Texas last year; she helped us on the net, as well. Hannah was terrific and is super smart. Allie was our utility this year. She could serve, pass; anything we asked of her.”
