Lady Cougars open Quitman Tourney with win

Cedar Creek opened the Quitman Tournament in dominating fashion as the Lady Cougars defeated Calvin 52-24 Thursday night at the Ruston Sports Complex.

Senior Allie Furr led Creek (3-2) with 22 points, 9 rebounds, six steals and six assists while Lizzie McAdams added 9 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals.

Creek led 14-4 after the first quarter and then 29-12 at halftime. The Lady Cougars extended their lead to 40-24 at the end of three before pitching a shutout in the fourth quarter, outscoring Calvin 12-0 to finish the game.

Elli Dickerson added six points and Lillian Soto and Leah Sutherland four points each.

The Lady Cougars face Jonesboro-Hodge tonight at 7:45 p.m. at the Ruston Sports Complex.

The Creek boys dropped a heartbreaker to Jonesboro-Hodge 53-48 in their first round game.

Davis Walsworth led Creek with 21 points while Connor Norris added 13 and Carter Hill chipped in with seven.

J-Hodge led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter and 30-18 at halftime before the Cougars cut the deficit to 37-30 at the end of the third quarter. Creek scored 18 points in the final stanza, led by nine from Walsworth, but couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

The Cougars face Summerfield tonight at 6:15 p.m.
