Confrontation with gun prompts arrest

Police arrested a man Thursday during the investigation of an altercation at the Stop & Shop Exxon station in Grambling.

Grambling Police officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault at the station at 1010 RWE Jones Drive. The victim pointed out a burgundy Toyota leaving the parking and an officer pursued it.

The officer lost visual contact with the suspect vehicle but later saw it traveling on Main Street in Grambling. The driver, Deontavais D. Candler, 32, said he had a pistol in the car.

Questioning of the suspect and victim indicated words were exchanged between the two in the parking lot. Candler allegedly went to his vehicle and retrieved the pistol, walked toward the victim the weapon behind his back and then brandished it in a threatening manner.

Candler was arrested for aggravated assault and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
