Lady Cougars roll; Cougars fall late

Allie Furr scored 28 points to lead the Cedar Creek Lady Cougars to a 70-37 win over Calvin in road non-district action Tuesday night.

Carter Hill scored all 14 of his points in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars dropped a 50-46 decision to Calvin.

In the girls game, Furr scored five early points while Ava Hartwell and Lizzie McAdams each hit first quarter three’s to help the Lady Cougars (10-4) hold onto a slim 12-11 advantage after the opening eight minutes of action.

Creek exploded for 20 points in the second quarter behind Furr’s nine points and Leah Sutherland’s five points as the Lady Cougars extended their lead to 32-21 at the half.

The third quarter saw Creek outscore Calvin 17-7 as Furr netted six more points and Olivia Underwood added five points to push the advantage to 49-28 through three.

Creek continued its offensive onslaught in the final period, outscoring Calvin 21-9 behind Furr’s eight points and Elli Dickeron’s four points.

Furr added nine steals and six assists while McAdams ended the game with nine points and seven rebounds. Lillian Soto led the Lady Cougars on the glass with 11 rebounds.

Creek will host Saline Friday at 6 p.m. at the Brickhouse.

The Cougars got off to a strong start in the second game of the night, building a 16-12 lead after one quarter. Jack Echols hit three three-pointers in the opening stanza while Connor Norris added four points.

Creek struggled offensively in the second quarter, netting only six points as Calvin tied the game at 22-22 at the break. Connor Johnson and Brian Osborne (3-pointer) hit the only two field goals of the quarter.

Head coach Lance Waldron’s group came out of the halftime locker room strong in the third quarter, outscoring Calvin 16-11 to grab a 38-33 advantage. Carter Hill, held scoreless in the first half, scored nine points while Davis Walsworth added four points in the frame.

However, Creek wasn’t able to hold on in the fourth quarter. Calvin outscored the Cougars 17-8 as Hill scored five of Creek’s points in the frame.

Hill led Creek with 14 points while Echols added nine and Norris and Walsworth each scored seven.

The Cougars host Saline at the Brickhouse Friday at 7 p.m.
