Veterans are invited to participate in the first of what is hoped to be an annual hunting event later this month.
The First Willie Belton American Hero Hunt will start on Friday, Jan, 13, with an evening of food and entertainment for all veterans. A guided deer hunt for Purple Heart hunters is scheduled for the following day.
This American Hero Hunt is in memory of the late Willie Arthur Belton, father of District Attorney John Belton. Willie was a businessman and political leader in south Louisiana. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Louisiana Medal of Honor for his service for the country.
Willie and his wife, Maudie, raised four children — Raymond, Cheryl, Fran and John – in Evangeline Parish.
The Friday dinner will begin at 6 p.m. for veterans and their guests. Chef Colby Rushing will cater the event and entertainment will be provided by The Josh Love Band. The Saturday Purple Heart Deer Hunting Day will include a quick breakfast, morning hunt, leisurely lunch, afternoon hunt, hunter/guide dinner and entertainment by Robert Cline Jr.
All veterans are invited to the kickoff dinner, which will be held at Timber Ridge, 562 Tin Top Road, Columbia. To register or for more information, call Event Chair David Chrisman at (318) 245-2883.
