Later Wednesday night, Ruston police officers went to Vernon Street to investigate a previous crime. During the course of that investigation, Stephanie Garner, 41, and Janice Brantley, 56, both of Ruston, were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Garner and Brantley had been asked for their names to determine if they were the parties officers were looking for. During questioning, Garner admitted she had three smoking pipes typically used to smoke crack cocaine in her purse.

Brantley was asked about the ownership of a purse in a flowerbed near her. Brantley said it was not hers, but her identification and a glass drug smoking pipe were found inside.
Brantley was also determined to be wanted on bench warrants for failure to appear in court for DWI, theft, careless operation of a vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, defective equipment on vehicle, and open container.
Both women were booked at the detention center for possession of drug paraphernalia and Brantley was also booked on eight bench warrants.
