Ruston High School had five students that have been named to the Louisiana American Choral Directors Association All-State Choir.

Seniors Taylor Bernard (bass), Melodi Frazier (alto) and Dillon Raspberry (tenor II) along with junior Garner Allen (baritone) and freshman Aubrey Champion (soprano) earned the prestigious honor and will join the 2023 Louisiana ACDA choral ensembles from Oct. 26 – 28.

“We are extremely proud of the five students that made all-state choir and are excited to see how the students that are attending the next competition will do,” Ruston High principal Dan Gressett said. “Our choral department is something we take a lot of pride in, and these five students are not only very talented singers but also great students. They represent Bearcat nation well.”

Professor Nathan Trahan up until recently served as director of choirs at Ruston High before being named Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Music Education at Louisiana Tech.

“Being selected to sing in an All-State Choir is a great honor and students compete with singers from across our state to join together for three days of learning in rehearsals together with their peer musicians,” Trahan said. “These rehearsals culminate in a performance of choral literature that is perfected upon and where notes/rhythms in a score are transformed into a manifest work of art through the artistry and musical efforts of the top young singers from Louisiana.

“I am so very proud of these five Bearcat singers for their hard work in preparing for an audition and their dedication to musical excellence. They are all exceptional singers in the RHS Bearcat Choir and are to be commended for their acceptance into the 2023 Louisiana ACDA all-state choral ensembles.”

The conference is taking place at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel in New Orleans.
