DC Inmates will clean up Lincoln Parish streets through new litter program

Lincoln Parish Sheriff Stephen Williams announced that starting Feb. 1, an inmate crew from the Lincoln Parish Detention Center will begin cleaning up litter from roadways in Lincoln Parish.

“This was an idea we came up with almost a year ago,” he said. “We purchased a utility trailer and inmates began customizing it to fit our needs. Unfortunately, as we were about to begin, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the project to be postponed.”

This new litter crew will be operated and funded by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln Parish Detention Center and will run in addition to the existing Lincoln Parish Police Jury litter crew. By doing this, the DC inmate crew will have the ability to respond to specific litter complaints from citizens and focus on problem areas within the parish.

“We are excited to offer this service to the citizens of Lincoln Parish,” said Sheriff Williams. “Please report any violators you witness littering. Help us keep Lincoln Parish beautiful.”
