RUSTON – After playing three countable matches in October, the Louisiana Tech soccer team will make its spring return to the pitch on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. versus Northwestern State.
It is the first of five home matches for LA Tech (2-1), all of which will be played at the Ruston Sports Complex. Attendance and parking are free.
Fans will only be allowed to sit on the east side of the field (opposite side of team benches). A limited number of bleacher seats are available. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs as well as wear masks. Limited concessions will be available also.
The match will be streamed live on CUSA.tv (subscription required). Fans can also access live stats on LATechSports.com or the LA Tech Athletics app.
“We are certainly excited to compete on the field again,” said head coach Kevin Sherry. “We are in a better place now than when we started in the fall because of the amount of work we have been able to put in. We learned a lot from those three games in October and know we are in for a tough game Wednesday, but we are better prepared.”
The Lady Techsters will be back in action for the first time since Halloween when they defeated Texas A&M-Commerce, 2-0. The team got a first-half goal from freshman Morgan Miller and an insurance goal in the second half from the foot of Amber Posthauer.
Also accounting for goals in the fall were freshman Tomoyo Kuroyanagi and senior Klesha Darroux who both scored in the 2-1 comeback win at Abilene Christian. Kuroyanagi played all 271 minutes of the three fall matches.
In net for both of those victories was sophomore Maggie Boston, totaling nine saves.
Scheduled to make her 50th career start is senior defender Elizabeth Doll. The Pearl River, Louisiana native is a two-time All-Conference USA selection who played and started in 18 games last season at center back as well as the three fall matches.
NSU (0-0), who did not play in the fall, will be playing its first match since Nov. 10, 2019 in the Southland Conference title game. The Lady Demons were tabbed third in the SLC preseason poll behind Lamar and Abilene Christian.
LA Tech picked up its first win in the series against NSU in the last meeting, winning 3-1 in Natchitoches in 2019. The Lady Demons lead the overall series, 3-1-1.
