Lots of weekend action slated for LA Tech

Louisiana Tech fans will soon have another sport to cheer for as the Diamond ‘Dogs get their 2021 season underway this weekend in Baton Rouge.

Mother Nature has won most of the spring sports matchups recently, but several other Bulldog and Lady Techster teams are set for action this weekend as well (weather permitting of course).

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will travel to Birmingham, Alabama for a third time this indoor season. This time, the track and field squads will take part in the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

SOFTBALL – The Lady Techsters opened their 2021 campaign with a victory, defeating ULM by a final score of 3-2 at the Best on the Bayou Tournament in Monroe. It was not just the first win for LA Tech, but it was also the first win for interim head coach Bianca Duran.

On the schedule is a four-game set at the McNeese State Invitational in Lake Charles, starting on Friday against Boise State. They will take on the Broncos for a second time over the weekend, along with North Dakota State and host McNeese.

GOLF – After Sunday’s LaTour Intercollegiate championship in Thibodaux, the Bulldogs are slated to head to Oxford, Mississippi to take on Ole Miss in a head-to-head contest on Saturday at the Country Club of Oxford.

SOCCER – The Lady Techsters will wrap up non-conference action this weekend when they play at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. LA Tech is 6-2 and on a four-match win streak after dominating 6-1 Tuesday night at Spring Hill in Mobile, Ala.

TENNIS – LA Tech had both of its road matches at Nicholls State and Southern postponed this past weekend due to weather. Hopefully, the weather clears up this weekend so the Lady Techsters can get back on the courts. They will take a four-match winning streak into Lake Charles to battle McNeese State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL – The Lady Techsters were scheduled to host Grambling on Thursday but the match was postponed. The team will now head back into C-USA action, taking on Southern Miss on Sunday and Monday inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
