Single-car crash claims life of 15-year-old from Junction City

A Junction City youth lost his life early Thursday morning as a result of a a single-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Hwy 167 just south of Dubach.

Demarion Brown, 15, was an unrestrained passenger in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala reportedly driven by 18-year-old Darin Brown Jr., of Junction City,

Brown Jr. was reported to be traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 167 at a high rate of speed and for reasons still being investigated lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, with the vehicle rolling as a result.

The accident was said to have occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Damarian Brown was pronounced dead at the scene while Brown Jr. reportedly sustained minor injuries. An additional passenger, identified as 22-year-old Tyrell Smith, of Junction City, was also said to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
All three occupants of the vehicle were reported to unrestrained.

The Louisiana State Police reported that a toxicology sample was taken and will be submitted for analysis. The LSP also said impairment and speed are suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
