LA Tech adds bowling transfer from Arkansas State

Louisiana Tech head women’s bowling head coach Matt Nantais has announced the addition of transfer Averi Brown (Columbus, Ohio/Arkansas State) to the 2021-22 roster on Tuesday.

“We are very excited to have Averi joining our program next year,” Nantais said. “She is bringing a ton of experience with her which will be very beneficial to the team. We are looking for her to make an immediate impact to our lineup. Academically, she was on the Southland Bowling League Academic Honor Roll.”

Brown spent the last three seasons at Arkansas State where she helped the Red Wolves earn a runner-up finish at the 2021 National Collegiate Bowling Championship. She competed in 23 events and registered 568 strikes and 455 spares during her Arkansas State career.

Brown competed in eight events as a junior in the 2020-21 season. She completed 418 frames with a pin average of 19.10 per frame. She had an overall fill average of 81.1 percent and a Baker DBL percentage of 43.2 percent. Brown totaled 190 strikes on the season, including 94 in traditional matches and 96 in Baker matches.

She had an overall strike percentage of 44.8 (190-of-424). Brown registered 154 spares and had an all-spare conversion percentage of 65.8. She bowled 22 traditional frames as the anchor bowler, finishing the season with a 10th frame average of 18.32 and a fill percentage of 90.9. Brown had 53 lead-off attempts with a fill percentage of 81.1 and a strike percentage of 45.3. She had a setup percentage of 50.0 on 20 attempts.

As a sophomore in 2019-20, Brown competed in nine events and completed 697 frames. She had a 19.60 pin average per frame with an overall fill percentage of 83.7. Brown totaled 332 strikes, including 188 in Baker games, and 257 spares during the campaign. She finished the season with a strike percentage of 47.2 (332-of-704) and an all-spare conversion percentage of 69.1 (257-of-372).

Brown saw action as the lead-off, anchor and fourth bowler during her sophomore season. She had 136 lead-off attempts and finished the season with a lead-off fill percentage of 82.4 and a strike percentage of 41.2.

During her freshman campaign at ASU in 2018-19, Brown competed in six events and completed 119 frames. She registered a 17.00 pin average per frame with an overall fill percentage of 72.0. Brown totaled 46 strikes and 44 spares as a freshman.
