Longtime ‘Rustonite’ honored

Ramona Martin, a representative from Congresswoman Candace Letlow’s office, presented Bertha Allbritton with a flag on June 25. The flag was flown over the state capitol in Baton Rouge in honor of her 102nd birthday. Ms. Bertha also received a certificate signed by Congresswoman Letlow in recognition of all she has done for the community and her family and a certificate of authenticity of the flag flying on her birthday on April 13, 2021. At Bertha’s Upscale Thrift, LLC, Ms. Bertha regaled a small group of family and friends with stories of her life and how she keeps her mind sharp.

“I do not let worries get me down and I do what I want to do,” Ms. Bertha said.

The Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce appreciated the opportunity to be included in this celebration and is grateful for the anonymous donor of the flag in honor of a long-time small business owner and lifetime Ruston-Lincoln citizen. Bertha’s Upscale Thrift is now owned by Ms. Bertha’s granddaughter, Russender Powell and is located at 107 Pelican Boulevard in Ruston.
