The Ruston Police Department responded to reports of a person lying in the roadway in the 4200 block of Hwy. 80 East on July 15 at 11:10 pm. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive black male lying in the westbound travel lane, who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Officers began to render aid until paramedics arrived. The male, later identified as Jeremiah Cox, 21 of West Monroe, was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
