Parish Library: Upcoming Events for Early Autumn

By Jim Wilkerson

The Lincoln Parish Library Board of Control in its last meeting on July 21 presented a schedule of important dates to remember for late summer/early autumn.

The first event is a community garage sale that is taking place at the library on September 18.

Next, library staff and board members plan to attend the Louisiana Tech Homecoming football game on September 25 to raise awareness for the library tax.

Early voting for the library millage renewal will also begin on September 25.

On September 30, there will be an open house at the library, with caricature artist Jim Tindall and a three-piece string quartet from Grambling University attending. The library has also reached out to Blue Bell, who will likely have a taste bar there.

Then, on October 2, members of the library will attend the Grambling Homecoming football game to continue raising awareness for the library millage.

One week later, the millage renewal will be on the ballot for the October 9 election.

Though not set in stone, it has recently been brought to the board’s attention that the Legislative Auditor wants Ruston to host training this September for government accountability and transparency. It has been requested that the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center be used to hold the training session, which will likely take place September 23 and 24. While this event is still pending, the library board has expressed an eager willingness to cooperate with the Legislative Auditor to make it happen.
