Woman arrested after taking car

An Arcadia woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly took an ex-boyfriend’s car, rammed a car containing two young children, and then left the scene.

Grambling Police investigated a report of a vehicle theft on College Avenue. Officers were told Ar’Keciyah L. Ward, 20, was seen taking the car of her ex-boyfriend of three years.

The car owner said he was arrested earlier in the day on a warrant in Bienville Parish and Ward obtained his keys without permission. Several calls to Ward to return the vehicle were ignored.
Local law enforcement agencies were notified to watch for the Hyundai Elantra and at about 1:50 a.m. Friday morning, Arcadia Police took Ward into custody.

Ward was taken from the Bienville Parish jail to the Grambling Police Department for questioning. She allegedly admitted taking the victim’s car and driving it to Arcadia. Ward said the victim gave her permission to be in the vehicle prior to his arrest earlier in the day. Ward said she was very angry at the victim for being with his current girlfriend.

Ward said she ran the victim’s car into the girlfriend’s car, causing minor damage to the front of rear of both vehicles. She said her one-year-old and three-week-old were inside the car when she hit the vehicle but did not intend to harm her children. Ward said she backed up and ran into the girlfriend’s car twice before leaving.

Ward was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for unauthorized use of a movable, aggravated criminal damage to property, domestic abuse with child endangerment, and driving under suspension.
