Remembering Johnny Monk

Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Monk, (also known as Money Man, Hobo, or Lawnmower Man) age 73 of Simsboro, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Owens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kelly Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Clay under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Johnny was born October 4, 1952 in Raleigh, MS to Trudy and Abb Monk and passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026 in Shreveport, LA after a lengthy illness. Johnny led a full and happy life driving trucks and working on small engines, in which he taught himself.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family that gave him so much joy.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Mae Monk; brothers, Billy Ray Monk, Charlie Monk, Leon Monk, and James Monk; granddaughter, Madilyn Brooke Monk; and sister-in-law, Joyce Monk.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vicky Monk; daughter, Jessie and husband Eddie Woolsey; son, Johnathon Monk and wife Jessica; grandchildren: Faith and husband Steven, Wayne, Luke, Emma, Aubrey, and Jacob; great-grandchildren: Kade, Halley, Alayna, Baylor, and Kreed; sister, Virginia Lay; brothers: Thomas Monk, Neal Monk and wife Lynn, George Monk, and Larry Monk and wife Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

Serving as pallbearers will be Luke Monk, John Cullins, Travis Cullins, Steven Buchan, Wayne Woolsey, and Johnathon Monk.  Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Woolsey and Kade Jernigan.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service, Thursday, at Owens Memorial Chapel.
