Fake license plate leads to DWI stop

A Monroe man was arrested in Ruston for DWI after he was stopped for an apparent fake license plate.

Deontreze Dade, 30, was stopped at about 1 a.m. Jan. 13 after a Ruston officer saw the vehicle was bearing a fictitious temporary license plate.

While speaking with Dade, the RPD officer detected physical signs of impairment by alcohol, including red watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage.

Dade admitted to consuming alcohol and admitted he knew the license plate was fake. He performed poorly on a battery of field sobriety tests.

Dade was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where a breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration to be .153g%, almost double the Louisiana legal limit. He was booked for first offense DWI, failure to register a vehicle, and fictitious license plate.
