TROOP F NEWS RELEASE — On Thursday, Feb. 12, shortly after 10 a.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash involving two commercial motor vehicles on Interstate 20 just west of La. Highway 3249 (Well Road). The crash claimed the lives of 46-year-old Clinton Warren of Vina, Alabama, and 45-year-old Nelson Okuoimose of Laveen, Arizona.
The initial investigation revealed that Warren was traveling west in the left westbound lane of Interstate 20 in a blue 2012 Freightliner, pulling a manufactured home. At the same time, a white 2013 Freightliner, pulling a box trailer, was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the right lane. For reasons still under investigation, Warren veered right and struck the white Freightliner. After the initial impact, both CMVs veered left, entered the median, and struck the Vancil Road overpass bridge support.
Warren, who was unrestrained, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Okuoimose, who was a passenger in the blue Freightliner, was also unrestrained and died at the scene. The driver of the white Freightliner, who was properly restrained, received minor injuries. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police want to remind all drivers and passengers that seat belts save lives. Whether traveling across town or the state, wearing your seat belt is the simplest and most effective way to protect yourself in a crash. Buckling up reduces your risk of serious injury or death by nearly half and is required by law in Louisiana for all occupants, regardless of seating position. Make seat belt use a habit—every trip, every seat, every time.
