Bridge construction to close I-20 lanes

The Cooktown Road bridge over Interstate 20 will require lane closures on Interstate 20 periodically over the next three weeks.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says beginning on the night of April 7 and continuing through April 21, lane closures will occur on eastbound and westbound I-20 as part of the La. Highway 544 overpass replacement.

These lane closures will be between the Tarbutton Road interchange and the U.S. 167 interchange and are required to construct the drilled shaft foundations in the median of I-20.

There will also be multiple short term closures (1-15 minutes) on the night of April 7 between 9pm-11pm to move equipment across I-20 into the median. The I-20 westbound on-ramps at the LA 33 and U.S. 167 Interchanges will also be closed during the times of the I-20 closures. The closure will be performed using Louisiana State Police and the contractor.

The entire project to replace the bridge and add roundabouts at either end is estimated to take up to four years.
