DWI suspect involved in Ruston hit and run

A woman was charged with hit and run driving in Ruston last week after she allegedly struck a parked car while intoxicated and left the scene.

Aterria Austin, 23, of Ruston, was arrested on April 24 after officers were called to a crash on Larson Street in southwest Ruston.


Police found that Austin was allegedly traveling north on Larson Street near Ross Avenue when she struck a parked vehicle and then turned around and returned home.

Officers found Austin seated in her vehicle in the yard of her residence. The engine was still running. Austin showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

A records check showed Austin was wanted for failure to appear in Third District Court on a possession of marijuana charge.

Austin was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where a breath test was administered showing her blood alcohol content to be .252g%, over three times the Louisiana legal limit.

Austin was booked for with first offense DWI, hit and run, and the District Court warrant.
