Remembering Calvin Singleton

Funeral Services for Calvin Singleton, age 77 of Choudrant, LA are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston with Rev. Eddie Robinson officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 until time of service under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel.
Calvin Benjamin Singleton was born April 11, 1948 in Lincoln parish to Mary Lela Henry Singleton and Joseph Singleton, as the youngest of seven children. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Calvin was a proud graduate of Ruston High School where he ran track. He loved to tell everyone “I was almost the fastest runner at RHS.” After high school he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University. Because of Calvin’s love for sports and community, he served as booster club president for both the Lady Techsters basketball and softball teams. Calvin gained many friends as the Account Manager at Commercial Union where he retired. Once retired he and Irene were able to spend their time traveling the world. He loved to tell stories of all the beautiful places he experienced. Just days before his passing he recounted his travels from Ireland to Hawaii and one of his favorites, Branson, MO.

Calvin had a warm smile, contagious laugh, and a gentle welcoming soul. He spent many days cheering on grandkids from the sidelines (or in his recliner). He taught the men his culinary secrets, such as, cutting onions properly for a crawfish boil to the correct temperature for a perfectly fried Thanksgiving turkey. But most of all, he loved his family deeply.

Calvin was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Singleton; brothers: Lavell Singleton, Marvin Singleton, Robert Singleton, Richard Singleton, and Clayton Singleton; and first wife, Donna Graves Singleton.

Calvin is survived by wife, Irene Jordan Singleton; daughters, Bree Doyle (Cliff) and Donna Elliott (Dwain); son, Robert Sanders (Staci); grandchildren: Collin Hodges, Josie Hodges, Daniel Hodges, Katelynn Doyle, Trevor Doyle, Ansaley Fitzgerald (Charlie), Taylor Allen (Clint), McKenzie Elliott (Noah Taylor), Trenton Trevillion, Slade Sanders (Annabelle), Alyssa Sanders, and Trevor Trevillion; great-grandchildren: Anna Claire Fitzgerald, Colton Allen, Brody Fitzgerald, Caleb Allen, and Stetson Sanders; sister, Faye Madden (Ronald); and a host of other family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cliff Doyle, Robert Sanders, Dwain Elliott, Charlie Fitzgerald, Clint Allen, Noah Taylor, Slade Sanders, Trevor Trevillion, and Collin Hodges.

The family would also like to say thank you to Elara Caring Hospice for their exceptional care and support; with a special thanks to Katie Johnson, Tamla Thompson, Destiny Bradford, Caitlin Barber, Tamiko Smith, and the rest of the team.
