Downsville drug investigation nets two arrests

Two Downsville women were arrested last week after the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office executed arrest and search warrants at a residence as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Tonya Gustafson Sanchez, 52, and Marie Annette Silva, 44, both of Downsville were arrested August 20 after several types of narcotics were found during the search.

Upon entering the residence, Union Parish deputies encountered the two women who were taken into custody. During the search, deputies located suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription drugs, cash, and items commonly used in the distribution of illegal narcotics.


Evidence collected included about 169 grams of suspected methamphetamine, multiple suspected Schedule II narcotics including oxycodone and amphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies also seized over $1,400 in cash believed to be related to the sale of narcotics.

The suspects were booked into the Union Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

Sanchez:

Two counts of distribution of Schedule II narcotics

Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute

Possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute

Possession of amphetamine with intent to distribute

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Silva:

Possession of marijuana

Possession of methamphetamine

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Sanchez’s bail was set at $290,000 and Silva’s at $40,000. The case remains under investigation.
