Non-student found on campus with gun

Campus police arrested a Lake Providence man when they found him in possession of a pistol on the Grambling State University campus.

A female student approached GSU officers about 3:40 a.m. Sunday morning reporting she did not feel safe and could not sleep in her dorm room because a man was staying with her roommate.

Cedric Lamar Nix, 21, was determined to be a non-student. Officer saw him handling a bag in the dorm room. When asked what was in the bag, Nick said “just some clothes” and handed the bag to one of the officers.

According to an officer’s report, Nix said police could look in the bag. Some clothing and a handgun were found inside.

Nix said he did not know the pistol was inside the bag. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for carrying a firearm in a school zone.
