HOUMA, La. — It was a sweltering couple of days, but Louisiana’s Junior River Cup team dominated the 2025 championship at the Ellendale Country Club in South Louisiana, winning overall 25.00 to 15.00 in a format similar to the Ryder Cup.

Lincoln Parish resident Grey Ramsey, too, was a critical part of Louisiana success after playing very competitive golf during the 54-hole stretch over two days.

“It was fun (to represent my state),” Ramsey said. “I played in this tournament last year; it’s always fun to play as a team after playing solo all year.”

On Day One, Ramsey and his teammate Eli Knighton ended up in a tie against Mississippians Neil Langford and Alex Penn through 18 holes in a four-ball match play, earning Louisiana 0.50 points. During the foursome match play that followed, Ramsey and Knighton ended up winning after going up three holes with two left to play (3&2) to earn 1.00 full point for Louisiana.

On Sunday, Ramsey and Langford had a thrilling match as both were four-under in strokes through nine holes and even in the match. Ramsey would win holes 14 and 16 to get the plus-one victory and earned another 1.00 full point for Louisiana.

“It was a tight course,” Ramsey said. “Thankfully, I was able to hit my driver pretty well on the weekend.”

Two weeks prior, Ramsey won the Mississippi Regional Final in the boys division at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Miss., where his grandfather Danny Graham caddied for him on the bag. Ramsey shot a total score of four-under for the tournament (72 and 68). The win qualifies him for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in Kinder, La., at the Kosati Pines at Coushatta November 7-9.

The final round will be broadcast on The Golf Channel.
