Monroe murder suspect arrested in Ruston

A suspect in a Monroe murder was apprehended in Ruston last Friday.

The Monroe Police Department said Cedric Braggs, 18, is accused of shooting 23-year-old Jeffery Hill in the 1600 block of Erin Street on October 3. MPD said Hill died at a local hospital.

MPD contacted the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office early that morning requesting assistance in apprehending Braggs.

LPSO placed Braggs’s residence under surveillance. An individual was seen leaving the residence with a blanket over his head to conceal his identity. After the man entered a vehicle, LPSO followed until additional personnel could reach the area.

The vehicle was stopped at East Line Avenue and South Farmerville Street about 2:30 p.m. by LPSO and Ruston Police. Braggs was found in back seat and arrested.

Braggs was taken to LPSO when he was questioned by Monroe PD detectives. He was then booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and transferred to the Ouachita Correctional Center Monday.

MPD said the incident was not a random shooting and that and all involved knew each other.
