According to meteorologists, we will gain another 40 minutes of daylight during the month of February. It can’t come soon enough. Warmer temps would also be nice.

The United Parcel Service will cut the ribbon on a new store at 1735 Farmerville Highway, Suite 12, on February 26. The store is just north of the USA Travel Plaza on La. Highway 33. I recall an earlier UPS store in Ruston that was quite handy.

No official numbers yet, but Ice Storm Fern left significant damage in its wake. Not just the random portable carport crumpled under the weight of the ice, but major buildings were heavily damaged or destroyed. O’Neal’s Farm & Garden, the gymnasium at New Living Word School, gas pump canopies at several convenience stores, and poultry houses were among parish buildings crushed under the weight of the ice.

Baseball and softball provide great entertainment value for the entire family. Whether its rec league, high school, or college, taking in a game can turn into an economical family pastime.

The Louisiana Peach Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 this year, about a month before Ruston’s best peaches ripen. But early June temperatures are more agreeable for the mostly outdoor event.

Both Lincoln Parish Sheriff Stephen Williams and Ruston Police Chief Eric Watson posted letters of thanks to social media thanking the community for its assistance and cooperation during the recent ice storm.
