A Baton Rouge man was arrested last week at Grambling State after officers recovered more than 36 grams of suspected marijuana from him and his vehicle, according to campus police.
Cameron Ja’Kobi Davis, 24, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance and being in violation of the drug-free zone provision.
Two Grambling State University police officers were patrolling the Robert Knott Hall area around midnight Aug. 13 when they saw a black Dodge Challenger back into a space in the rear parking lot. As the officers approached, the driver opened the driver’s-side door and identified himself through the LA Wallet application as Davis.

While Davis was presenting his identification, an officer detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and asked whether Davis had any marijuana on him or in the car. Davis said he had roughly five grams in his right front pocket, then removed a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance.
Davis was advised of his rights and asked to step out of the vehicle. He became argumentative before exiting and was handcuffed. A pat-down turned up more marijuana in the same pocket, and a search of the vehicle turned up a large quantity of suspected marijuana packaged in five baggies inside the center console.
The suspected marijuana recovered from Davis and the vehicle totaled 36.3 grams, an amount that, along with the circumstances of the investigation, exceeded what is typically associated with personal use and indicated the drugs were intended for distribution or sale.
Davis was taken to the Grambling State University Police Department for further investigation and processing before being transported to the detention center. He has previously been arrested on campus on a count of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.
