Remembering Elizabeth Ann Harkins Trammell

Elizabeth Ann Harkins Trammell (Liz) was born in Hico, Louisiana, on September 17, 1932, to Wade Lavelle and Theo Stewart Harkins. On September 26, 2026, at the age of 94, she went home into the loving arms of Jesus after a life that was wonderfully full, active, and beautifully shared with others.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Dubach, LA.  Officiating will be Rev. Eddie Robison and Rev. Barry Joyner.   A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 at First Baptist Church in Dubach, LA.

On August 8, 1953, she married the love of her life, Alan Gray Trammell, Sr.  Following Al’s service in the United States Air Force, they made their home in Dubach, where Liz enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Al and spent the rest of her life caring for her family and her extraordinary circle of friends.

Their only son, Alan Gray Trammell, Jr., was born on October 28, 1958, and, as everyone knows, was the apple of his mother’s eye. Alan and his wife, Paula, whom Liz cherished as a daughter, brought her great joy and lovingly cared for her throughout her life and in her final days. Her three grandchildren, Grace, Emily, and Carson, were her ultimate treasures, and being their “Lizzie” was one of the great pleasures of her life.

Longtime friends knew Liz as “Baby,” and hearing someone call, “Hey, Baby!” to Liz was perfectly fine in Dubach—though it sometimes caused puzzled looks from those who did not know her.

Liz had an unmistakable eye for beauty. With her striking silver hair, jewelry, and impeccable style, she always looked like a million. That same love of beauty was reflected in the generous care she gave to others, as she delighted in sharing her many talents. Her life and home was often filled with friends, flowers, delicious food, beautiful tables, and her very distinctive laugh as she hosted and attended countless showers, parties, and celebrations for those she loved.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dubach, Liz taught Sunday School and served her church in many ways, including providing beautiful flower arrangements for the sanctuary even in the final years of her life. She was also a long-time member of the Ruston Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Ruston Garden Club, Dubach Les Amities Club, and many other organizations. Her faith was woven into the way she lived and served—with grace, generosity, optimism, and a genuine love for people.

Liz may have had more friends than anyone in North Louisiana. She took a sincere interest in their families, joys, troubles, and stories, making everyone feel that they mattered. In her later years, she stayed connected by telephone. If you missed Liz’s call, you had better call her back quickly, because if you tarried, she may already have been calling the next friend on her list.

Liz was no stranger to hardship and loss, but she faced them with strong faith and an extraordinary ability to look forward. Even at the end of life, she spoke not of death, but of looking ahead to her new home in Heaven.

Liz leaves behind her beloved son, Alan Gray Trammell, Jr., and his wife, Paula; her cherished grandchildren, Grace, Emily, and Carson; and far too many friends to count. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and husband.

Liz gave so much of herself to those she loved, and in return, she was deeply loved. Though she will be greatly missed, we can rest in the knowledge that her heart is now rejoicing in the eternal celebration of Heaven.

Donations in honor of Liz would be graciously accepted by First Baptist Church of Dubach and the American Diabetes Association.
