Recently the Association of Indian Students presented India Nite to celebrate their culture. An event such as this one required a lot of organization, effort, and funding according to the faculty adviser, Sylvia Shultz.
“My involvement with the students as faculty adviser in the past and as a mentor has been very rewarding and enriching”, Shultz said. ”This year’s committee has shown great diligence and enthusiasm in planning for the event.”
Prior to India Nite, the event was sold out at 250 tickets and many community members were asking for additional tickets.
India Nite gave the students and families an opportunity to celebrate and display their rich traditions.
During the event, there were 12 performance sets from Indian dances to flute and vocals to Bollywood dancing.
The AIS served the guests with many popular Indian dishes such as chicken biryani, butter paneer and dal makhani.
The event not only celebrated the Indian culture but it also gave students from other backgrounds to exchange ideas and traditions.
“My guest said they thoroughly enjoyed the event and asked to be notified about next year’s date so they could reserve a whole table in advance”, Shultz said.
