Reckless driver nets second DWI

Ruston Police arrested a local woman Sunday evening for numerous traffic offenses after an officer observed her reckless driving.

An officer on patrol on West Alabama Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Sunday saw a driver make several sudden dangerous lane changes. When stopped, the driver said she had no identification. She provided a name, but it could not be verified through a records check.

The driver exhibited signs of intoxication including an odor of alcoholic beverages on her breath and bloodshot eyes. When officers attempted to arrest her, she pulled away in an effort to prevent handcuffing. After being placed in handcuffs, she admitted her real name was Erica P. Rimmey, 36, of Ruston. She could not provide vehicle registration or proof of insurance and the vehicle’s inspection sticker was expired.

Rimmey was transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where standardized field sobriety tests were conducted. When offered a breath test, she refused to provide a breath sample. Records indicated a previous DWI in 2014. Rimmey was booked for careless operation of a vehicle, resisting an officer, second offence, no proof of liability insurance, no vehicle registration, and expired inspection sticker. Bail was set at $4,500.
