Five days after becoming the Conference USA Men’s Golf individual champion, Louisiana Tech’s James Swash was honored for his work in the classroom as the Bulldog was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team.

Swash, one of five golfers to be selected to the team, became just the second Bulldog in program history to receive C-USA All-Academic honors.

The fifth-year senior sports a 3.75 grade point average and is in the process of getting his master’s degree in Business Administration. He is a four-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient and was a 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District and GCAA All-American Scholar.

On the course, he has played in 30 rounds (10 events) this season while recording a team-leading 73.27 stroke average. Most recently, he became the first LA Tech golfer since 1980 to become an individual medalist, winning the C-USA Championship this past week after coming back from three strokes down to shoot a championship-best 68 (-4) in round three to win by two strokes.

It was one of his four top-20 finishes and one of his two top-10 finishes (tied for eighth at the Border Olympics). He finished in the top 35 individually in eight of his 10 tournaments and was the Bulldogs top finisher in five events.

He recorded 11 rounds this season of at or under par, including a season-best 67, which came in the very first round of the 2022-23 season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. His second-best round was the 68 in the third and final round of the C-USA Championship that propelled him to the individual win and an automatic berth into the NCAA Regional.
