Man charged with attempted burglary

Ruston Police arrested a man Saturday after he allegedly attempted to break into a South Trenton Street residence.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress about 1:30 Saturday afternoon. When an officer arrived, a man was seen attempting to leave on a bicycle. According to an arrest affidavit, the man was stopped and identified himself as Terry Davis. When a pat down search was attempted, the man pulled away several times and repeatedly attempted to reach into his pockets. He was placed in restraints and a search conducted.

The victim told officers the suspect’s true name was Roosevelt Brooks, Jr., 55, of Ruston. The victim said Brooks had repeatedly broken into his home “to smoke crack and steal stuff.”

The victim said Brooks attempted to open the front door and then moved to the rear of the residence where he attempted to physically force the door open. Brooks then allegedly broke through a Sheetrock wall on the back porch that leads to a utility closet in an effort to gain entry.

Brooks denied attempting to force entry, stating he was only knocking on the door. He said he gave a false name because he was nervous.

A records check showed four active warrants for failure to appear in Ruston City Court on charges of theft (two counts), simple battery, and flight from an officer.

Brooks was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for attempted simple burglary, resisting an officer, and the four warrants.
