Gun stolen in Ruston vehicle burglary

A Ruston man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly burglarized a vehicle and stole a firearm.

Tyress Kelly, 19, was arrested on multiple felony charges after Ruston Police investigated a vehicle burglary on Rosalie Drive.

A witness told police a man wearing a white shirt and black pants was burglarizing vehicles and was seen entering a residence on Rosalie Drive. Officers went to the address and were told the suspect was in a bedroom. Officers were allowed inside and a man wearing a white shirt and dark blue pants identified as Tyress Kelly was found. Kelly said he had not burglarized the vehicles.


The victim said a firearm and approximately $200 in cash had been taken from the vehicle. The firearm was recovered from the home where Kelly was found. Upon his arrest, $63 in cash was found in his pocket.

Records show Kelly is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Kelly was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for two counts of burglary of a vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor probation violation. A hold was placed on Kelly for the Louisiana Department of Corrections Probation and Parole for felony probation violation.

Bail was set at $40,000.
