Two men charged with shoplifting

Ruston Police arrested two men Tuesday afternoon after they allegedly shoplifted at a Dollar General Store.

Police responded to the store and viewed video showing two suspects entering the store after getting out of a Black Chrysler 300 bearing Texas plates. One suspect was wearing a red hooded jacket under a black jacket, black pants, and solid white flip flops. The second suspect was wearing all black. The video showed suspects placing multiple Febreze air fresheners into their clothing before leaving the store without paying.

At about 2:30 p.m., a Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the vehicle in southeast Ruston. When RPD officers arrived, the vehicle had parked it on Terrell Drive and two men were walking away, seemingly with no clear destination.

One suspect, identified as Jeremy Hardyway, 28, of Ruston, refused to stop for an officer and pulled away from an attempt to stop him. He was subsequently detained and was found to be wearing black pants, a red shirt and white flip flops matching the description of one of the Dollar General suspects.

The second suspect. Dominique Richards, 31, of Farmerville, was wearing black pants and a white shirt. Richards said he had given Hardyway a ride to and from the store.

A pillowcase containing Febreze air fresheners still in their packaging was found in the car.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Hardaway was booked for theft by shoplifting, resisting an officer, four counts of probation violation, and warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of criminal mischief, simple battery, criminal trespass, and two counts of theft under $1,000. His bail was set at $11,000.

Richards was booked for theft by shoplifting, an arrest warrant for theft less than $1000, and two warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of expired inspection sticker and driving under suspension. His bail was set at $5,000.
