Fourteen-year-old JJ Hoover won six individual state titles and was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet leading a number of Bulldog Aquatic Club competitors at the Louisiana Summer 14 and under State Championship Meet in Baton Rouge in late February.

The event included the top swimmers in the state competing in age groups of 10u, 11-12 and 13-14.

Hoover captured the state title in every individual event in which he competed, including the 400m individual medley, the 200m butterfly, the 200m breaststroke, the 100m butterfly, the 200m individual Medley, and the 200m backstroke. 

He also captured the High Point Award, which goes to the swimmer who scored the most points in their age group.

“JJ winning Male Swimmer of the Meet was great,” said BAC coach Rocky Smith.  “Also, this is our fourth High Point winner in the last four state meets which is the longest streak our team has ever had.”

Hoover joined Charles Han (10) and Mason Moreno (10) as all-state individual performers while Han, Moreno, Palmer Pendley (10) and Michael Wall (10) earned the honors on relays. All-state honors are awarded to any swimmer who finishes in the top three of an individual or relay event.

The BAC finished 10th overall with the girls finishing 12th and the boys 6th.

“The athletes really competed well this weekend,” said Smith.  “We sent 19 kids to compete in this meet.  That is the most we have ever sent.  It was a good mix of experience and youth within each age group. Our team’s finish was a complete team effort. I am so proud of these athletes.”

10 and Under Girls

Destin Bell, 8, was 16^th in the 100 Individual Medley, 16^th in the 100 Backstroke, 18^th in the 200 Freestyle, 16^th in the 100 Freestyle, 6^th in the 50 Backstroke, and 15^th in the 50 Freestyle.

Katherine Huenefeld, 9, was 18^th in the 100 Individual Medley, 7^th in the 100 Backstroke, 12^th in the 50 Butterfly, 12^th in the 100 Freestyle, 13^th in the 50 Backstroke, and 14^th in the 50 Freestyle. 

Emma McDonald, 10, was 8^th in the 100 Individual Medley, 14^th in the 50 Butterfly, 8^th in the 200 Freestyle, 10^th in the 100 Freestyle, 4^th in the 50 Backstroke, and 13^th in the 50 Freestyle.

200 Free Relay was 4^th with a team of K. Huenefeld, McDonald, Solae Woods (9), and Bell. 

200 Medley Relay was 6^th with a team of McDonald, Bell, K. Huenefeld, and Solae Woods (9). 

11-12 Girls

Mikayla “MJ” Colvin, 11, was 19^th in the 100 Backstroke, 26^th in the 200 Freestyle, 26^th in the 100 Freestyle, and 26^th in the 50 Backstroke. 

Naomi Huenefeld, 11, was 20^th in the 100 Backstroke. 

200 Freestyle Relay was 11^th with a team of N. Huenefeld, Mialanie Thueme-Diaz (11), Lauren Becks (11), and Colvin. 

200 Medley Relay was 11^th with a team of N. Huenefeld, Mialanie Thueme-Diaz (11), Lauren Becks (11), and Colvin. 

13-14 Girls

Abby Huenefeld, 14, was 34^th in the 100 Breaststroke. 

Breanna Senn, 14, was 31^st in the 100 Backstroke, 32^nd in the 100 Freestyle, 28^th in the 100 Butterfly, 18^th in the 200 Backstroke, and 25^th in the 500 Freestyle.

Ruby Smith, 14, was 37^th in the 100 Backstroke and 37^th in the 200 Backstroke. 

Emily Xu, 13, was 20^th in the 100 Freestyle, 29^th in the 100 Fly, and 12^th in the 50 Freestyle.

200 Freestyle Relay was 16^th with a team of Senn, Smith, A. Huenefeld, and Xu. 

200 Medley Relay was 17^th with a team of Smith, A. Huenefeld, Senn, and Xu. 

400 Freestyle Relay was 17^th with a team of Xu, Senn, Smith, and A. Huenefeld.

400 Medley Relay was 18^th with a team of Smith, A. Huenefeld, Senn, and Xu. 

10 and Under Boys

Logan Burgin, 9, was 21^st in the 50 Breaststroke, and 21^st in the 100 Breaststroke. 

Charles Han, 10, was 3^rd in the 100 Individual Medley, 4^th in the 200 Freestyle, 2^nd in the 100 Butterfly, 5^th in the 200 Individual Medley, 7^th in the 50 Backstroke, and 5^th in the 50 Freestyle. 

Mason Moreno, 10, was 3^rd in the 100 Individual Medley, 8^th in the 50 Butterfly, 4^th in the 100 Freestyle, 2^nd in the 50 Breaststroke, 3^rd in the 100 Breaststroke, and 6^th in the 50 Freestyle. 

Palmer Pendley, 10, was 28^th in the 100 Breaststroke. 

Michael Wall, 10, in the 100 Individual Medley, 23^rd in the 200 Freestyle, 16^th in the 100 Butterfly, 15^th in the 50 Backstroke, 9^th in the 100 Breaststroke, and 18^th in the 50 Freestyle. 

200 Freestyle Relay was 4^th with a team of Moreno, Wall, Pendley, and C. Han.

200 Medley Relay was 3^rd with a team Wall, Moreno, Han, and Pendley.

11-12 Boys

William Cloutet, 12, was 28^th in the 100 Backstroke, 14^th in the 200 Freestyle, 18^th in the 100 Freestyle, 17^th in the 50 Breaststroke, 13^th in the 500 Freestyle, and 21^st in the 100 Breaststroke.

Brian Han, 12, was 23^rd in the 50 Breaststroke, 34^th in the 200 Individual Medley, and 24^th in the 100 Breaststroke. 

Jackson Smith, 12, was 12^th in the 100 Individual Medley, 15^th in the 100 Backstroke, 17^th in the 50 Butterfly, 13^th in the 50 Breaststroke, 10^th in the 50 Backstroke, and 15^th in the 100 Breaststroke. 

Jacob Swearengin, 11, was 37^th in the 50 Breaststroke. 

200 Freestyle Relay was 11^th with a team of Smith, Swearengin, B. Han, and Cloutet.

200 Medley Relay was 13^th with a team of Cloutet, B. Han, Smith, and Swearengin. 

13-14 Boys

Joseph “G” Amiano, 6^th in the 100 Backstroke, 13^th in the 200 Freestyle, 9^th in the 100 Freestyle, 9^th in the 100 Butterfly, 11^th in the 200 Individual Medley, and 6^th in the 50 Freestyle. 

John “JJ” Hoover (14) was 1^st in the 400 Individual Medley, 1^st in the 200 Butterfly, 1^st in the 200 Breaststroke, 1^st in the 100 Butterfly, 1^st in the 200 Individual Medley, and 1st in the 200 Backstroke. 

200 Freestyle Relay was 7^th with a team of Hoover, Matthew Roach (14), Tristan Nassar (13), and Amiano.
