Woman jumps from vehicle to avoid knife

A Ruston man was arrested last Thursday after he allegedly began stabbing at invisible figures in his vehicle, causing a passenger to jump out.

George Anthony, 50, was arrested for aggravated assault after Ruston Police were called to a North Chautauqua Road location regarding a man waving around an axe near city utility workers. An officer directed Anthony to put down the axe and he did so.

At the same time, police were investigating a report a woman had jumped from a moving vehicle matching the description of Anthony’s SUV.

A woman told police she was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Anthony with an additional passenger in the back seat. The woman said Anthony began seeing people who were not there, pulled out a pocket knife, and began stabbing the air next to her.

The woman said Anthony tried to reach his axe in the rear of the vehicle and said, “If I can’t get them, I’ll stab you,” referring to the woman.

The woman said she jumped from the moving vehicle.

Anthony was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Bell was set at $1,000.
