Former GSU player killed in Ruston crash

Jazmin “Paso” Boyd, a former star Grambling State University basketball player, was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Ruston Friday night.

The crash occurred on West Alabama Avenue at Goyne Street near Park Ridge Estates. Preliminary reports indicate Boyd’s vehicle hit a utility pole. Further details were not available over the weekend.

Boyd, GSU’s 9th all-time leading scorer, played from 2015 to 2019. She led the Tigers to its first NCAA appearance in 20 years in 2018.

Originally from El Paso, Texas, Boyd was a standout player for Hattiesburg, Miss., High School before attending GSU.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our former women’s basketball student-athlete and GSU alumna, Jazmin Boyd,” Tigers athletic director Trayvean Scott said in a statement.  “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, teammates and all who were touched by her remarkable life. We ask for everyone to keep the Boyd family in your prayers during this very difficult time.”
